Meet The Artist
My name is Heidi Hinnershitz, and I'm the local ceramic artist behind Yonder Mountain Pottery. I live at nearly 4,300 feet up a winding mountain road, where I create my pottery on my deck beneath a large maple tree, surrounded by the cool mountain air and the beauty of nature.
As I work with clay, I'm often visited by deer, foxes, bears, songbirds, hawks, salamanders, and countless other wildlife. Living so closely connected to the natural world continually inspires the forms, colors, and textures in my work.
I fell in love with pottery because clay is so deeply connected to the earth. Before it is fired, it is a recyclable, renewable material that can be shaped and reshaped, making the creative process feel both grounding and timeless. I intentionally choose glazes inspired by the landscape around me; deep blues reminiscent of mountain lakes and rivers, rich browns like tree bark and deer tracks in the forest floor, and earthy greens that echo the evergreens surrounding my home.
My hope is that each piece reflects the quiet beauty of these mountains. It would be an honor to know that one of my mugs becomes part of your morning coffee or afternoon tea, reminding you to slow down, savor the moment, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world around you.
